According to the National Association of Wedding Ministers, 29 percent of weddings occur in the spring – a combined 23.3 percent of ceremonies are conducted in March, April or May. Spring is especially favorable in hotter climates like Texas where a summer wedding is often too warm for most guests.

If you are planning for a wedding in the coming year, here are a few 2016 spring wedding trends to get you thinking about your dream day. Get inspired for your spring 2017 wedding with some of these unique season-focused ideas.

THE DRESS

One of the more popular wedding gown details that we have seen this year are illusion necklines and backs that are pushing the envelope. This full-on illusion bodice combines a sexy sheer top with carefully placed lace appliqués. The romantic look is covered up in all the right places and the nude lining makes for an intriguing look. This re-embroidered, metallic lace long sleeve Reem Acra wedding dress with a circular tulle underlay is one breathtaking example of the trend.

Wedding Bands For Your Groom

You’ve got the diamonds, said yes, chosen your maid of honor and possibly even selected a venue – planning for the big day is well underway. Your hubby-to-be put a tremendous amount of thought, time and effort into choosing your engagement ring. Now, you are faced with the tough task of trying to select a wedding band for him.

If your groom isn’t a regular jewelry wearer, the task may seem difficult – you want to incorporate his personal style while also selecting a timeless piece that he will be proud of for years to come. With the availability of rings spanning a variety of materials, cuts, designs and engraving options, you may need a bit of help narrowing down your selection. At Gold Unlimited, we know just how time intensive this process can be, so we compiled a list of some helpful tips when choosing your man’s band.

Metal

Textures and finishes come in a variety of metals, including gold, sterling silver and platinum. Industrial metals such as titanium, stainless steel and tungsten are very durable and offer a masculine appeal.

Shape

Comfort and fit are the most important factor when choosing a band shape. Comfort-fit wedding bands, for example, are a good choice for men who aren’t used to wearing jewelry. A pipe band, on the other hand, features straight edges and a flat top for a more contemporary look.

Stones

Does your groom enjoy the finer things in life? Would he appreciate a bit of sparkle or a few colorful accents in his ring? Men’s wedding bands can include diamonds and gemstones. A row of inlaid diamonds is a popular choice among some grooms, but remember to keep your future husband’s style in mind when considering this option.

Details

Not his father’s wedding band, detailed rings are the right fit for a guy who wants to be noticed. A unique or ornate band features specific detailing like beading, engraving and sculpting to add more of an aesthetic appeal to the classic style.

Tying the Knot? Get Extremely Old School with Your Engagement Ring

You’ve found them. The special someone you want to spend the rest of your life with. Step one: check. Step two: finding the perfect ring to symbolize your love and commitment. You step into Gold Unlimited and see the countless number of engagement rings on selection, but which one to choose? You know you don’t want something plain and boring. You want something with pizazz, something away from the plain old ‘band and diamond.’ That’s when you see it: the Hercules knot. You’ve seen it before, the simple circle inside a circle, but the design itself seems so ancient, so old. Where did the design come from, and why does it feel so right for your proposal?

Tradition of ‘Tying the Knot’

You might not know it, but a majority of our modern wedding and engagement traditions come from Ancient Rome. The reception, carrying the bride through the doorway, the garter belt: all of these go back millennia. But there is one that has begun to wane in popularity in recent years: the Hercules knot. In Ancient Rome, the Hercules knot symbolized healing, binding, and commitment. The Hercules knot was put on all sorts of jewelry ranging from headbands to rings; it was even used to fasten the woman’s garter before the marriage ceremony began. (Tying the knot, get it?)

The Switch to ‘Band and Diamond’ Engagement Rings

The Hercules knot was used for thousands of years to show commitment and binding between two people, but in recent years, it has been replaced by the easily recognizable ‘circle and diamond’ design. The circle itself continues the tradition of the Hercules knot (circles are never ending, symbolizing the love between two individuals) but is much easier for jewelers to craft and mold. But, while the plain ‘band and diamond’ ring maintains the symbolism, the Hercules knot brings beauty, elegance, and radiance to the hand of the one you love.

A Symbol of Love

Your love isn’t something plain and simple. Your love is complex. Your love binds you and your partner together, and you’re ready to take that next step. Why settle for a simplistic engagement ring? Why not choose a ring that embodies your love with the charm, elegance, and symbolism that your loved one deserves? The Hercules knot may not be for you, but variations of the knot are countless.

What to Consider When Shopping for a Bridal Set

Considering proposing to the love of your life? Shopping around as couple knowing you both want to spend the rest of you lives with one another? Engagement ring shopping or wedding band shopping is a very intimate experience as you consider what the rings symbolize and how they will be a part of you and your love’s life forever. For many, the process is a two-stage approach. First the engagement ring is carefully shopped for and selected, and then presented to the bride to be. Next, (after she hopefully says “yes”), typically the hopeful couple will go wedding band shopping together.

It is not uncommon for the engagement ring’s centerpiece to be a diamond and for the wedding bands to be a relatively simple, gold band. However, there is an attractive alternative that some marriage hopefuls are not aware of that can add a bit of congruency as well as simplify the shopping experience – not to mention potentially save them a bit of money. It’s called a bridal set.

What is a Bridal Set?

Bridal sets are a design that whose intention is to simplify and delight through seamless integration of the engagement ring and the wedding band. They are constructed so that both may be worn at the same time, on the same finger. Every bride wants her rings to be beautiful, but being able to combine both the band and the diamond ring together to make a unique piece adds another level of creativity and versatility. You can purchase premade bridal sets (sometimes referred to as “wedding sets”), or have a set custom made for a look you can be sure no one else in the world will have.

Types of Bridal Sets

The three types of bridal sets you may be asked if you want are “parallel sets”, “integrated sets”, or a “3 Ring” design. Parallel sets are individual matching rings that, that don’t interlock, meaning that the wedding band or engagement ring can be worn independently. Integrated sets mean that the engagement ring and band are molded in such a way as they interlock seamlessly when worn together – this means that if worn individually, a noticeable indentation or curve will be seen. # Ring design crafted to include the engagement ring, the wedding band, and the Groom’s wedding ring.
